Thomas Mulroy was first convicted of an attempted murder in 1998 and then a murder in 2006.
In 1998 he attempted to murder his ex-girlfriend after stalking her for several weeks. He stabbed her in the face neck and chest. He had climbed in through her window. He was jailed for 9 years.
In October 2005 he murdered Dawn Myers 49 who he stabbed in the neck. After murdering her he took a woman back to his flat where he raped her and showed her the body of Dawn Myers saying that that should have been her.
In 1989 he had also been convicted for 3 years after assaulting a woman by beating her resulting in her entire spleen being removed and part of her pancreas.
